Sports Pulse: Taking a closer look at the top Super Bowl commercials

USA TODAY

Celebrities can persuade us to buy almost anything – from laundry detergent and insurance to food and the latest tech.

We’ve seen Drake hilariously working out to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” in his 2016 Apple Music ad; Betty White transforming into a football star after taking a bite of a Snickers bar; and Sofia Vergara teaching employees how to dress sexier in her 2014 Kmart commercial.

Commercials packed with celebrity cameos can be hilarious, clever and definitely worth the watch. Even if we don’t buy their products, at least we still get a good laugh. We rounded up some of the funniest, wackiest celebrity ad spots:

Celebrities: Kanye, Banksy, Drake and more stars take action following George Floyd’s death

Ja Rule, Papa Cristo’s Greek Grill (2020)

Ja Rule is going viral for a reason other than Fyre Festival. The rapper and festival co-organizer hilariously obsesses over the Los Angeles restaurant Papa Cristo’s menu in this low-budget commercial. The rapper attempts to pronounce his favorite delicacies, from oktapodakia to avgolemono soup, ultimately saying “you can’t even pronounce the food it’s so (expletive) good.”

Jason Momoa, Rocket Mortgage (2020)

The buff “Game of Thrones” actor looks unrecognizable without his biceps and abs – and apparently his hair, too. Momoa gets a little too comfortable at home in this 2020 Super Bowl commercial for Rocket Mortgage, as he strips off his prosthetic muscles and wig. Wife Lisa Bonet makes a cameo appearance at the end, helping her husband lift some not-so-heavy weights.

Kristen Wiig, Pizza Hut (2017)

Wiig puts her “Saturday Night Live” skills to the test in this 2017 commercial, as she plays every man, woman and child in America who enjoys pizza in the “Pizza Hut” ad series.

‘Saturday Night Live’: Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey, Martin Short return for Mother’s Day show

Leslie David Baker, Cheerios (2020)

Leslie David Baker might not have gotten the “be happy” memo. Just like his “The Office” character Stanley Hudson, Baker isn’t rocking a smile, even while indulging in (and enjoying) some Honey Nut Cheerios.

Snoop Dogg, The General Insurance (2020)

Snoop Dogg shows how low you can go in this car insurance ad, as he drives around in a magenta low rider singing the catchy jingle with The General. “You drop the rates, I drop the beats,” the rapper says.

One Direction and Drew Brees, Pepsi (2012)
