Top Gun 2 will bring back Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, but the sequel is going to find it tough to beat the 1986 movie’s iconic soundtrack.
Top Gun: Maverick will look to recapture the same magic that made the 1986 Top Gun such a cult classic, but whether its soundtrack can match up to the original movie’s is another matter entirely. Directed by Tony Scott, Top Gun was a real hit when it landed in cinemas, soaring to over $350 million at the box office, despite being made on a budget of just $15 million. The film was more mixed with critics, but succeeded with audiences because of its cast, tone, and stunning aerial action, but just as memorable was its soundtrack.
Top Gun 2 is coming 34-years-later, but it’ll still look to capitalize on those factors that made the first movie so successful. The sequel will bring back Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Val Kilmer’s Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, it’s going to try and recapture the tone of the original film, and it’s definitely going all-in on taking the jet fighter plane action sequences to a whole new level. But while Top Gun: Maverick looks to work on all those fronts, what about its soundtrack? That might prove a little trickier.
