- Brad Pitt is headed back into the action movie realm with Bullet Train, where he’ll star as an assassin reportedly named Ladybug.
- The movie is based on the book Maria Beetle by Japanese author Kotaro Isaka, and will follow five killers on one intense train ride.
After playing stunt double on Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, Pitt will return to action star in the lead of the forthcoming thriller Bullet Train. With David Leitch—the filmmaker behind Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw—at the helm, we can rest assured Pitt will be in full action hero mode.
THR even reports that the project, which is based on the Japanese book Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka, feels like a cross between the recent thrillers Speed starring Keanu Reeves and Non-Stop, which starred Liam Neeson—in case it hasn’t sunk in yet that this will be an action flick. Deadline reports that Maria Beetle follows five assassins on the on a train with intertwined missions. “The question becomes, who will make it off the train alive and what awaits them at the terminal station?” the outlet describes.
Though there will surely be plenty of stunts and fight sequences to look forward to, the best part (so far) for Pitt is the unlikely name of his killer character: Ladybug—at least that’s what sources are telling THR. Sure beats the sound of Cliff Dalton, John Smith, or Tyler Durden.
Bullet Train‘s prospective release date remains unknown, but shooting is expected to begin this fall. With its contained set, THR points out, it can more aptly follow health restrictions as the coronavirus pandemic has halted filming schedules across the industry.
